10 best Quiz Patente apps to pass the Italian driving theory exam (2026)

You do not need a driving school to pass the Italian theory exam, but you do need a lot of practice. The exam draws its questions from a public bank of about 7,000 true/false statements published by the Ministry of Transport, so the best preparation is answering them again and again until the patterns stick. A good app makes that easy, and for many learners the real problem is not the rules but the Italian they are written in.

This list covers ten apps for the Patente B (car) theory exam. We compare them on what matters most when you study every day: which devices they run on, which languages they support, and whether they explain answers or only mark them.

A note on how this list was made. Quiz Patente AI is our own app, so we list it first and say so. The other nine are not ranked against each other: they follow no order of quality. Their details come from each app's store listing as of November 2026, and we have not run a lab test of every one. Apps change prices and features often, so check the listing before you download.

What the exam looks like

The theory exam is a computer test of 30 true/false questions in 20 minutes. You may make no more than 3 errors; a fourth fails you. If you fail, you can retake it after a waiting period. Rules are set by the Motorizzazione Civile and can change, so confirm the current format on their website. If you are starting from zero, read our guide to how to get your licence in Italy first.

"Check for Android" means we could not confirm an Android version, so we did not guess. Most store apps are tied to one phone ecosystem: if you study on your phone and want to practise on a laptop, or you switch from Android to iPhone, you may have to start again. A browser-based app avoids that.

1. Quiz Patente AI: any device, any browser, AI help in 14 languages

Get it: Open in your browser · works on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux

Quiz Patente AI is the app we build, so weigh this entry accordingly. It runs in the browser, which means you can use it on any platform you own: an iPhone, an Android phone, a Windows laptop, a Mac, a Linux machine or a tablet. There is nothing to install and no store account needed. You sign in with your account and your progress follows you from device to device, so you can do a few questions on the phone on the bus and an exam simulation on the laptop at home.

It includes the 7,000+ official questions organised into theory topics. The interface is in English and Italian; the AI help and theory explanations work in 14 languages: English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Persian, Russian, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Pashto. You can highlight any text, ask the AI to explain a question or translate a passage, save notes, and repeat the questions you got wrong. You can start for free.

The honest limitations: it is a web app, not an app-store download, so it needs an internet connection and does not appear on your home screen unless you add a shortcut yourself; the menus are not translated into all 14 languages; and AI explanations can occasionally be wrong, so treat them as a study aid and check anything surprising against the theory text.

2. Quiz Patente Ufficiale: for Italian speakers

Get it: App Store

Quiz Patente Ufficiale is one of the most reviewed Patente apps on the App Store, which usually means a mature, stable product. It is Italian-first, so it suits people who read Italian comfortably. If Italian is your first language, it is a safe default. If it is not, look further down the list.

3. Quiz Patente B – Drivoo: for quick daily practice

Get it: App Store

Drivoo is a long-running quiz app that its developer says has been downloaded millions of times. Its store listing shows Italian only. It suits short daily sessions and works well if you already understand the vocabulary and want volume.

4. Quiz Patente Tradotto: for translated questions

Get it: App Store · Google Play

Quiz Patente Tradotto covers Patente A, B and AM, and is available on both iPhone and Android. Its listing advertises translations of the official quizzes into a very large number of languages, while the store page itself is in English and Italian. If your language is on the list, it is worth a trial, but check how the translation reads on a few questions before you commit; machine-style translations of legal wording can be awkward.

5. Quiz Patente Multilingua: for offline practice

Get it: App Store

Quiz Patente Multilingua is the one to look at if you want to practise without a connection: it is described as including an offline practice mode, so confirm that in the listing before you rely on it. Check the listing for the languages it currently supports. If your commute has no signal, offline matters more than it sounds.

6. Driving Freedom: PatenteB Quiz: for Persian, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu speakers

Get it: App Store

Driving Freedom is aimed squarely at expats. Its listing offers the theory exam in English, Persian, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu and includes flashcards based on the Leitner system, a spaced-repetition method that brings back the questions you get wrong more often. We found it on the App Store only.

7. Patente Prep Italian: for explanations in Hindi and Punjabi

Get it: App Store

Patente Prep Italian provides explanations in English, Italian, Punjabi and Hindi, which is rare. Explanations matter: a question you understand is far easier to remember than one you have memorised. We found it on the App Store only.

8. Amar Patente: for Bengali speakers

Get it: App Store

Amar Patente offers Italian, English and Bengali, with exam simulations. Bengali is poorly served by most competitors, so this one is worth trying if it is your language.

9. EasyPatente: for tapping a word to translate it

Get it: App Store · Google Play · Website

EasyPatente's selling point is tap-to-translate: you press a difficult word inside a question and see its meaning. According to its listing, it covers seven languages. This approach teaches you the Italian exam vocabulary as you practise, which is useful because every question you will meet is built from the same few hundred terms.

10. SIDA Quiz Patente: for choice of language

Get it: App Store · Google Play

SIDA Quiz Patente lists eight languages and is available on both iPhone and Android, which makes it a reasonable middle option if your language is among them and you want a conventional quiz app.

How to choose

  • You use more than one device, or you are not sure which phone you will have next year: pick the browser-based app (1), so nothing is tied to one store.
  • Your Italian is strong: pick a large quiz app (2 or 3) and focus on volume.
  • Your Italian is weak: choose a translated, explained or tap-to-translate app (1, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9) and learn the exam vocabulary alongside the rules.
  • You study offline: check offline mode before downloading (5).
  • You keep failing the same questions: look for spaced repetition or an "errors" list, which several of these apps include.

Whichever you choose, do real exam simulations in the last week: 30 questions, 20 minutes, a maximum of 3 errors. If you want to learn the vocabulary first, start with our list of the 10 essential Italian words for the driving theory exam.

Frequently asked questions

Which Quiz Patente app works on every device? A browser-based app works on anything with a modern browser. Quiz Patente AI is built that way, so the same account works on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux. Store apps are limited to the platforms in their listing.

Are these apps free? Most are free to download with limits or paid upgrades, and some are paid. Prices change, so check the listing.

Do the apps use the real exam questions? The question bank is public, and most apps are built on it. Because apps are updated at different speeds, check that the one you choose says it is based on the current bank.

Can I take the exam in my own language? Italy offers the theory exam in several languages; availability depends on the testing office, so confirm with the Motorizzazione Civile when you book.

How many apps should I use? One is enough. Switching between apps splits your progress and your error history. Pick one, use it daily, and stay with it until the exam.
